What motivates you, Deb?
Good question. I will need to go back a few years to answer this.
During my young years, many many moons ago, my wonderful parents had several small business in Maryland. There were many memorable moments growing up with Entrepreneurs. They taught me the Value of Hard Work as I watched and helped them in their businesses. Watching how they interacted with their customers and their kindness towards them had a profound impact on me. They taught me to be empathetic towards customers even though the customer may act intolerable since their actions may just a cover for burdens they carry in their hearts.
It’s so true. I have met many homeowners and other investors in this business who carry very heavy burdens and some deal with them daily. I understand that burden. I lost my oldest son to cancer 10 years ago, just before his 21st birthday, and my world came crashing down. I remember every little detail of the hospital visits and probably will remember them for the rest of my life. I give thanks to my family for being there when I needed them most. I found that by participating in related charitable events helped me tremendously in dealing with my own pain. Participated in TWO of the AVON’s Breast Cancer WALK events which were a marathon and a half(39 miles)each and completed them both. Body broken, but my spirit was uplifted walking with cancer survivors and learning about their journeys. To say it was inspirational does not provide the emotional impact it had on all. I also support “Make a Wish” foundation which provides a special event or trip for terminally ill children and I support St. Jude Hospital who dedicates their efforts towards cancer research for childhood cancers.
What have I accomplished since being a helping hand in my parents’ businesses? I earned a Bachelors degree in Biology and I’ve worked at the bench in Medical Research Laboratories for over 20 years helping to find treatments for diseases. Now no longer in the laboratory, I continue to support Researchers who are still working diligently in the labs. The systems that I developed for my Operations job are working so well that I started looking for new challenges. My entrepreneurial spirit started to awaken and then it happened………I was invited to a Real Estate seminar where I felt a calling to learn more. I fell in love with Real Estate and learned of all the difficulties homeowners could face……..loosing their homes through missed payments, then short sale, then auction, then foreclosure. Many times these situations could be averted if the house is sold before the bank acquires it. That’s where I decided my knowledge and skills would help, helping homeowners with house selling problems/ issues. So here we are………..
